Today we had option to travel to the market town of Belleek, for a behind-the- scenes tour of a porcelain factory where we could have learned about techniques handed down from generation to generation. We chose to stay behind and enjoy free time at your hotel. We took a long leisurely walk around the grounds of the hotel and just enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful area of Lough Este Castle. The bus returned from the tour of the porcelain factory around noon, and we were able to catch a ride into the lovely little town of Donegal. We walked around for a while and did a little shopping. During our trip we found out that one of our Granddaughters was going to get Baptized. We were very excited, and while we were shopping we spotted a very nice Celtic Cross necklace, so we bought to give to her to celebrate the occasion. She promised not to get Baptized until we got back so we could be part of the ceremony. One of the elements that is very important to Carol is to find great places to eat, so she does a lot of research and reads a lot of Trip Advisor reviews. In Donegal she found a small, family owned, restaurant in Donegal. The name of the restaurant was Marina’s Café and Bar. Upon review of the menu we decided, once again, on Fish & Chips. It was awesome, the best we had in Ireland. Many of the restaurants in Ireland serve large portions and the food is always served HOT! Because we have learned that Irish servicing are bountiful Carol and I many times split a meal. That is what we did here, and it was still too much food. Another pleasure that I have in travelling is to sample the local spirits. At Marina’s I had Rockshore Lager, and it was a perfect complement to the Fish & Chips. We finished the day with another delightful dinner at the Cedars Restaurant at the Lough Este Castle. |
